Marlin ISD announces new head coach

The Marlin ISD School Board of Managers met Monday, March 18, at the Marlin Middle School Library, with President Billy Johnson presiding. Board Managers present were Byrleen Terry, Marsha Ridlehuber, Misty Ehlers, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools. Rosalyn Dimerson was not in attendance.

The Lone Star Governance recognitions included Student of the Month - 5th grader Catherine Lynn, Teacher of the Month - Eula Mae Jones, and Employees of the Month - Ashley Moore and Lindy Mitchell. 

The Board moved into closed session re: Pursuant to Texas Government Code Sections 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters, to include the recommendations to hire Head Football Coach and Pursuant to Texas Government Code Sections 551.071, consultation with attorney.

After returning from closed session, Superintendent’s Reports followed. Jesse Bustamante, Executive Director of Human Resources, shared Bond 2022 updates including Legion Field concrete work and demolition of tickets booths and concession stand. 

Dr. Stacy Parker Knight, Chief Operating Officer, presented the 2024-2025 Budget workshop. Factors influencing Budget Development include enrollment/staffing needs, student attendance, student basic allotments, and property tax values. Funds are spent on instruction, facilities, student support, control administration, and campus administration. She emphasized that when local shares increase, state share decreases. The next Board Budget Workshop is May 6, and the budget and proposed tax rate will be adopted in June 2024.  In addition, Dr. Parker Knight presented an overview of the 2024 February Financial Record including investment interests that earned an estimated $300,000.

Jamal Robinson, Director of Federal and State Programs, offered Rural Pathways Excellence Partnership program updates. The goal of R-PEP is to increase access to high-quality post-secondary pathways for rural students through the replication of the successful Rural School Innovation Zone model in South Texas. Districts designated as an R-PEP will earn an additional ADA allotment for each student in a postsecondary pathway and an Outcomes Bonus for each student that earns a postsecondary credential of value up to 5 years after graduation. The Falls County Rural Collaborative includes Marlin, Rosebud-Lott, and Region 12.

Board member Byrleen Terry moved to approve the consent agenda items. Seconded by Misty Ehlers, the motion carried. In other matters, Jesse Bustamante announced the appointment of current Marlin High School Defensive Coordinator, Jeff Rogers, as the Bulldogs’ Head Football Coach.
