The Open Session resumed with remarks of appreciation from the new Superintendent. Mr. Bates thanked all and is looking forward to meeting staff members and has already reached out to the community. One of his goals is to make Marlin ISD a premier district.

Adam J. Lejeune followed with Bond 2022 updates at Legion Field and Marlin High School auditorium and the new gym. He reported the high school auditorium projects are near completion. Online-streaming is completed, and sound absorption panels are needed in the Auditorium. Renovations for the new Board room will commence soon. New security gates are installed at the high school. The 3-floor box elevator is operating on three floors at Legion Field. Gym drainage has been improved.

Tamika Washington, Director of Academics, presented information on the Beginning of Year (BOY) i-Ready Data Report. The presentation provided an overview of the data screener that was administered across the district, assessing students’ foundational skills and identifying areas of strength and needs. At least 66% of first graders are on/above grade level in Math followed with a lower percentage of 7th & 8th graders in Math. The data also serves as a baseline to guide instructional planning, intervention, and enrichment efforts. It was questioned if uncertified teachers were in classrooms in the areas of low performance. Superintendent Bates noted there are administrative positions to be filled.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:15pm. The next scheduled meeting is November 17 at 5 pm.
