Marlin ISD celebrates principals at meeting

The Marlin ISD Board of Managers met Oct. 3 in the Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding.  Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Byrleen Terry, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools. 

In celebration of National Principals Month, Marlin ISD outstanding campus leaders, who make a difference in the lives of over 900 students, were recognized for their visions and leadership. Marlin Elementary Principal Jewelisha Jefferson, Marlin Middle School Principal Tamika Washington and Marlin High School John Ensley were acknowledged. 

Superintendent’s Reports followed after the board’s closed session. 

Niki Edwards, Executive Director of Academics, presented the Campus Improvement Plan which serves as the blueprint for how the campus will address the needs of students identified during the Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) and in alignment with the District Improvement Plan goals. The online Driven by Data Unit Assessment test will be during the week of Oct. 24. 

The Long-Range Facility Planning Assessments were reviewed by Bob Cervi of PROCEDEO Group. He addressed the conditions of the 50-year-old high school including, but not limited to, poor air quality, severely worn roof, poor lighting and storage, leaks, and inadequate science labs. Legion Field updates mentioned included the unsafe press box, poor drainage, inadequate field house amenities. The track does not meet UIL provisions.

In other matters, Dr. Stacy Parker Knight, Chief Financial Officer, requested approval for cumulative purchases from Amazon that exceed the $25,000 threshold. It was announced the Student Services will host a Meet & Greet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at the Marlin Men’s Civic Association venue. Misty Ehlers moved to approve the consent agenda, seconded by Byrleen Terry. Motion carried. With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
