Marlin ISD earns superior rating for school financial integrity

The Marlin ISD Board of Managers met Dec. 13 at the Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding. Board Managers present were Marsha Ridlehuber, Byrleen Terry, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent.

Prior to the regular meeting was a public hearing revealing the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) overview. Lawrence Galloway noted the purpose of the rating was to evaluate the quality of financial management decisions. The district was rated “A-Superior Achievement.”

The regular business meeting opened with the introductions of the Lone Star Governance Recognitions for the month of December 2021: Sonja Holtzclaw, Employee of the Month, Janice Carroll-Teacher of the Month and Middle School Student of the Month-Tiffany Lam.

Jesse Bustamante, Director of Human Resources & Special Education, reported the Multipurpose Activity Complex (MAC) is progressing according to plan with a projected mid-January completion date. He also reported the Vision 2025 Extra and Co-Curriculum key strategic measures. Regarding the Vision 2025 Media Mentions strategic measures, Superintendent Henson noted MISD was recognized by the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) for its outstanding communication services and has plans to submit application at the national level.

Lawrence Galloway, Chief Operating Officer, remarked the 2020-2021 District Financial Audit was completed. Jesse Oliver, Beasley, Mitchell & Co CPA representative, presented financial audit highlights indicating the report reflected as unmodified opinion with no findings, which is the best to have.

In other financial matters, Lawrence Galloway shared updates on social work services, transportation, child nutrition and investment accounts. The health service update included MISD has been COVID free since September 2021. To continue efforts to prioritize, launch, and continuously improve learning acceleration strategies, Patrice Woodson, Director of Curriculum, proposed the adoption of the Texas Covid Learning Acceleration Supports (TCLAS) instructional coaching support for the elementary and middle school teachers through ESC-Region 12.

With no further business, Byrleen Terry moved to approve all consent agenda items, seconded by Marsha Ridlehuber; motion carried, and the meeting adjourned.
