Marlin ISD fills leadership positions across district
The Marlin ISD Board of Managers filled leadership positions within the district on April 19.
Positions filled were: Nikki Edwards, Director of School Improvement; Jewelisha Jefferson, MES Principal; Tamika Washington, MMS Principal; Darius Kelley, MES Dean of Instruction; Lesley Sanders, MES Dean of Students; Dametra Holloway, MMS Dean of Instruction; Ortega McDavid, MMS Dean of Students and Assistant Athletics Director; Nicola Myers-Gardere, MHS Assistant Principal; William Ealy, Dean of Instruction at MHS; Willie Keener, Fine Arts Coordinator for Marlin ISD; Ruben Torres III, Athletic Director who will also continue as Head Football Coach.
The board met at Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding. Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Byrleen Terry, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools. There were no agenda items public comments posted.
Lawrence Galloway presented the Lone Star Governance Student of the Month to Lee Williams III, Teacher of the Month to Kindergarten teacher Maggie Foster Norris, and Employee of the Month to Nikki Edwards, MME and MMS Principal.
The Board of Managers went into closed session, Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters to include recommendation to hire MHS Principal, MMS Principal, MES Principal, Director of School Improvement, Fine Arts Coordinator and Athletic Director.
Open session resumed with Superintendent Reports. Patrice Woodson, Director of Curriculum, reported on the Summer Fun Reading program for Pre-K to 8th grade students. All will receive a Summer Reading Book Pack.
The program goal is for students to continue to develop reading/writing literacy skills over the summer and is supported by the TX Reading Initiative Grant. A proclamation 2022 overview and timeline were presented. Issued by the State Board of Education, new Health and PE instructional materials will be implemented in the classroom during the 2022-23 school year.
Lawrence presented the 2022-23 Budget Planning with programs and goals to be considered. He asked the March 2022 finance reports to be approved. Dr. Stacy Parker, Executive Director of Academics and Student Services, reported updates on the District Professional 2022 Dual Strategic Plan. The plan would provide a teacher-quality professional learning experience to ensure a learning environment conductive to academic performance. Workshops and compensation were discussed.
Jesse Bustamante, Director of Human Resources and Special Projects, submitted 2022-2023 Employee Contract and timeline. Employee contracts will be emailed April 19, 2022, to employees through Frontline. The deadline for employees to electronically sign and submit contracts is May 11,2022.
Because there were no applications filed, the Board Managers approved the Order of Cancellation of the May 7 Board Election for Place 2 and Place 5. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
