Marlin ISD School Board Officers elected
A Public Meeting: Marlin ISD Plan for Title Funding for the school district was held June 16, 2025, at 5:00 pm in the Marlin Middle School Learning Center, 678 Success Dr., President Billy Johnson, presiding.
The Board of Managers present were Kathleen Barrett, Rosalyn Dimerson, Misty Ehlers, Marsha Ridlehuber and Byrleen Terry.
Winnette Outland was not in attendance. Dr. Rolando Trevino, TEA School Conservator, was present.
In the absence of Dr.
Stacy Parker, Dr. Henson presented the Plan for Title Funding which would accommodate as a supplement to the budget, increase effectiveness and support the academic performance of the students. The meeting adjourned at 5:04 pm.
Immediately following was the regular Board of Managers meeting. Public comment addressed why a private company was not considered for construction job.
Lone Star Governance recognitions were Student of the Month, Senior graduate Jaidan Womack.
Jaidan scored over 1000 points during his basketball tenure and is active in other campus groups. Teacher of the Month was Etoshia Butler, 11th-12th high school teacher.
The Board moved to closed session (a) Pursuit to the Texas Government Code Section 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters, (b) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 551.071, consultation with the district’s attorney regarding deliberation of current litigation and consultation regarding superintendent search and (c) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 552.071, consultation with the district’s attorney regarding the pending dispute resolution and legal remedies related to the defects of the track and field.
After convening from the closed session, Superintendent’s Reports were presented. Jesse Bustamante, Chief Operating Officer, initiated with the Bond 2022 updates including clearing for the new gymnasium and the aerial views of the Legion Field press box. Installation of the Bulldog logos on the press box will be soon. The public was encouraged to drive by to see the many updates.
Dr. Henson noted fiftyone seniors mastered the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) which is a state-mandated test in Texas that determines if students are ready for college-level coursework in English Language Arts & Reading (ELAR) and Math. Eight seniors completed the FAFSA Opt. Out Form He added that the students did not use curriculum time but on their own. Re: STAAR/ End of Course Preliminary Data, Henson thanked the Board for considering the “thinking outside the box” approaches in meeting and mastering the needs of the students. Success was seen. It was recognized that MHS is on path of achievement and improvement is needed in the 7th grade middle school.
Action items approved included the Financial Report May 2025 with payroll as one of the largest expenses for the month of June, the 2025-26 $11.2 million budget, Final Budget amendments, 2025-26 Salary Schedule, and the purchase of School Safety/ Security Best Practices.
The Board authorized Dr.
Henson to consider options for the Construction Dispute Resolution related to the Track and Field at the Marlin Athletic Complex (MAC).
The Board approved the naming of the several district sites: Rockney “Rocky” Terry Marlin Athletic Complex, Main Entry Plaza Legion Field-Johnson, Vickers and Terry Family Plaza, Dr. Darryl J. Henson Press Box at Legion Field, and MHS Basketball Court as Coach Leo Green Court.
In other matters, Sanchez Driveways received the $68K contract for the maintenance job re: MHS Fence Repairs and the $960K contract for the (MTOF) Maintenance & Transportation Operations Facility Expansion Project (Bus Barn).
The Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE) contract was renewed as the district’s food service management valued $497,872.
The 2025-26 Board Officer Election initial public vote result was President-Rosalyn Dimerson, Vice President Byrleen Terry, and Secretary Winnette Outland. A closed session was executed by Dr. Rolando Trevino, TEA Conservator.
After transitioning back to the open session, Byrleen Terry was nominated as Board President. Rosalyn Dimerson will serve as Vice President and Winnette Outland, Secretary.
