Marlin ISD Students and Employees Recognized
A Regular Meeting of Marlin ISD was held April 20 at 5 p.m. in the MISD Boardroom, Board President Byrleen Terry, presiding. Attendees were Rosalyn Dimerson, Misty Ehlers, Winnette Outland and Superintendent of Schools Alphonso Bates. Board members Billy Johnson, Sharon Tomlinson, Debra Trotter and TEA Conservator Dr. Rolando Trevino were not in attendance.
Numerous students and teachers were recognized for their outstanding achievements and performances. Lone Star Governance Student of the Month, Tyzasia Watkins, Teacher of the Month, Nicholas Spencer Players/ Performers of the Month: Girls Basketball Destinee Washington, Girls Track Baylee Bluitt, and Boys Track Christian Diles.
Other recognitions were Proclamation School Nurses Day LaTrina Cheeves and Judy Morrow, Property Alliance of Texas (PCAT) Marshall Higgins, Insurance Education Safety Employee Recognitions Andrew Smith and Robin Gutierezz, and Athletic Director/ Head Coach Ayrus Gaines.
The Education in Action Lone Star Leadership Academy was recognized to include Angelique Armenta, Ashtyn Bailey, Embrie Coleman, Jerlicia Evans, Holden Hartsfield, Aaryn Johnson, Jesenia Johnson, Yaretzi Moya, Valeria Nunez, Tennslie Outland, Averi Roberson, Saniyah Scaggs and Lindan Womack.
Established in 2019, the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) was built for Texas school districts to designate and reward top-performing teachers. The incentives provide funds for outstanding teachers to remain in the classroom and improve student outcomes. The TIA destinations are Eula Jones, Suzanne Kluck, Monet Washington and Milagro Morales.
Immediately after the recognitions, the Board moved into closed session Section 551.074, for the purpose of considering the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline or dismissal of a public officer or employee or to hear complaints or charges against a public officer or employee. (1) Consider the renewal and/or extension of administrative and/or professional contracts.
Convening from closed session, Rosalyn Dimerson moved to approve the Administrative and/ or Professional contracts. Misty Ehlers seconded the motion; the motion carried. Supt. Bates noted all Board Members have completed their Continuing Education of Board Members.
Superintendent Bates acknowledged the administrative team for their leadership. He noted he attended a Lion’s Club meeting.
Kimberly Svatek, Chief Academic Officer, provided Academics updates on the 2026-2027 Dual Credit Program with MCC. The course fee is still in conversation, but there possibly may be a book fee. Senior English 1301/1302, Government, Economics, and Psychology will be offered. Courses align to MCC 15hour dual credit plan. An on-boarding course with parents in April Action Items Approved Senate Bill 546, 3-Point Seat Belts, was presented by Dr. Trey Bethley, Executive Director of Operations. was presented. By 2097, all buses must be equipped with 3-point seat belts for passengers and drivers. The Board approved Option A, a future budget will support the purchase or retrofitting of buses.
J. Adam LeJeune, Chief of Technology, addressed the purchase of 300 Chromebooks, with licenses and warranty extension, for an estimated total of $97K. LeJeune presented the purchase of Media Link Telecom and Aeromind (E-rate projects), including maintenance, operation discount cost and replacement switches for 10+ years hardware.
Norman Jones presented the Financial Report. Approximately $55,918 was earned on the Investment account. The Budget Amendment included funds for new equipment for the maintenance department.
Dr. Lewis reviewed and facilitated the Board Self-Evaluation. After the self-evaluation, the meeting adjourned. The next meeting is scheduled May 4 at 5 pm.
