Marlin ISD will follow guidance from TEA on COVID protocols

Marlin ISD has announced protocols for returning to school this month.

MISD Superintendent Daryl Henson said in a statement that Marlin ISD has received the updated guidance from the Texas Education Agency regarding COVID-19.

“Our number one priority remains the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and their families. In keeping with this priority, the district will maintain the majority of our safety, communication, and contact tracing protocols. Face coverings and social distancing, when possible, will be strongly encouraged,” he said.

“In full transparency, at this time, employees who test positive or exhibit symptoms of COVID-19, will have to use their local/personal leave to comply with protocols outlined by the district and health officials. We understand the unease this may cause and thank our Board of Managers for extending the COVID leave days from Dec. 31, 2020, to June 4, 2021, however, at this time no COVID leave days will be provided. We encourage students and staff to wear a face covering to help mitigate the exposure and spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant.”

Marlin ISD returned to classes on Aug. 10.

Marlin Independent School District is supplying every student in the district with a free backpack filled with school supplies this year.

“We want to help lessen the burden for families as much as possible,” Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Galloway said. “We hope the free supplies help build excitement for Marlin ISD students and allow families to focus on transitioning to a brand new school year.”

Backpacks will be embroidered with the Marlin ISD logo and will include all necessary supplies and materials needed to be prepared for this school year.

Fully registered students could pick up the backpacks at Marlin Middle School on Friday, Aug. 6, and Monday, Aug. 9.
