Marlin mayoral election set for recount

There will be a recount in the Marlin Mayoral election on Thursday due to an eight vote difference in the outcome of Saturday’s election.

Results from Saturday show Sue Byrd defeated incumbent Mayor Carolyn Lofton 256-248.

Incumbent councilmembers Cecil Sparks (Precinct 5) and Debra Levels-McDavid (Precinct 3) were both re-elected. Neither had an opponent in the election.

Marlin voters also approved a proposition to lower the current ½ of one percent sales and use tax to ¼ of one percent to fund a Type B EDC which can fund projects eligible under certain circumstances. There were 366 votes for and 94 votes against the proposition.

Voters across the county passed all three Emergency Services District propositions. ESD 1 passed 322-53. ESD 2 passed 183-52. ESD 3 passed 223-66.

Chilton ISD voters also passed a $14 million bond election 146-82.
