Marlin students honored for excellence

A select group of Marlin Elementary and Marlin Middle School students were recently honored March 30 for academic excellence by consistently demonstrating mastery level performance on their exams. 

Over 58 students were supported by parents, families, and peers at the high school auditorium for the Honor Reception.

The program opened with a welcome by Yarida Deleon, MMS National Junior Honor Society President. 

Principal Niki Edwards thanked the parents, families, and staff for their support to ensure the students excelled socially, emotionally, and academically. She reminded the parents and families the foundations provided at home are never taken for granted. She noted the scholars lead the pack in performance and are on track to enter college, a career, or the military ready to excel.

Third grade honorees were Christian Cabrera, Trinitee Cheeves, Adriana Cienfuegos, Julissa Flores-Segura, Isaiah Jones, Zymariah Kirk, Ja’Leeah McGee, Elonzo Smith, Ethan Smith, Mariya Smith, Logan Tasby and Jasmine Thomas.

Fourth grade honorees were Carson Carrie, Kaitlyn Cienfuegos, Jasmyn Flores, Santiago Gomez, Karina Hernandez, Da’Las-Don Lang, Cherysh Rivers, Ivan Rosales, Orlando Salazar-Reyes, Alyania Smith-Judie, and Char’zihya Williams.

Fifth grade honorees were Ian Aguilar, Mariah Armstead, Camila Badillo, Evelyn Benitez, Jaidon Brooks, Memoree Brown, Austin Crumpton, Daniela Cubias, Anastasia Garza, Emmanuel Johnson, Leonardo Mora, Emiliano Moreno-Hefelfinger, Estaban Nunez, Carina Rosales, Maryan Santee, Skyylar Thomas, Ruben Turrbiartes, Tyson Watkins, Jhazden Weatherspoon, Lee Williams, Desaniya Willis, Elijah Roberson, Reginal Estelle, and Fredy Macedo. 

Sixth grade honorees included Daniel Cubilla, Da’Marion Doson, Ashanti Outland and Melody Thompson. Seventh grade honorees were Betzy Badillo, Te’Odrick Bailey, Bryce Bates, and Kason Grant. Eighth grades were Lillith Braun, Ryan Burgett, Zeramyan Burns, Brianna Chambers, Christian Constantino, Yarida Deleon, Marielena Diaz, Alberto Garcis, Jesus Garcia, Aaria Johnson, Tiffany Lam, Jason Pecina, John Perez, Maravilla Ramirez, Alexis Rincon, Hector Martinez, Caden Thomas, Cerenity Thomas, Ge’Uunte Thomas, Alisha Vera, and Lacie Watkins.

Students recited an “Excellence Encouraged” pledge to positively stand out as they reach for excellence and to persevere through challenges.  Assistant Principals J. Jefferson and O. McDavid presented each student a monogrammed sweater. Closing remarks by Elijah Roberson, MES National Elementary Honor Society, Vice-President, followed with refreshments.
