MHS Cosmetology program plans inaugural Hair Show

The Marlin High School Cosmetology Program will host its first annual Hair Show, Friday, April 21, 10 a.m. to noon, at the MHS Auditorium.

The public is invited. Mrs. Connie Massington is the class instructor. The students are excited to share with their peers and community the many styles and hair techniques, nails and make-up applications learned in their classes.

The program has a total of thirty-six students to include five seniors, eight juniors, eight sophomores and 15 freshmen. Mrs. Washington noted the numbers allow her opportunity to offer more individual help to the students. She mentioned senior Jaasiah Roddy has 1,000 hours making her eligible for State Board in May.

In addition to hairstyles, the students also learn skills as using disinfectants, cleaning tools, creating hairstyles, nails, lashes and hair and skin care. In visiting with the students, many had hair technique skills that started with their dolls or observing relatives at home. They took the class to polish their skills. The program covers basic principles and foundations of the cosmetology profession, developmental skills, employment opportunities and career information.

The Cosmetology Salon services are open to the public. For appointments, call (254) 883-3585, Cosmetology extension.
