MISD cancells all extracurricular activities

Bulldog fans will have to wait for Friday night lights in Marlin after school officials announced that all extracurricular activities were cancelled this week.

Marlin ISD said all extracurricular activities are canceled due to poor academic performance.

Marlin Head Football Coach Ruben Torres III said in a statement: Academic excellence is the priority of our district. We have set a high standard that all of us will be held too. Accountability in all departments will be upheld.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to play the Itasca Wampus Cats on Friday at Patton Field but the game has been forfeited.

MISD Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson said that the issue is not poor academic performance.

The district has new policies in place regarding grades, completed assignments, and academic standards that were not met.

He said there is a new academic standard at Marlin ISD and that every decision made underscores the district’s dedication to ensuring students are prepared for the future. The district firmly believes in treating students as partners in their academic journeys, valuing their dedication and efforts toward shared goals of success.
