New businesses open in Marlin

Marlin is experiencing economic growth, as three new businesses have opened in the span of just a couple weeks time. The coffee shop and two restaurants are set to make a great addition to the Marlin community. Whether it’s Cindy’s, D&S Ranch, or That Hippie Cafe, they won’t disappoint.

Cindy Jester is back at it again with the help of family and friends Candy, Brandi, Carolyn, Myrissa, Joey, Fred, Tori, and Johnny. A legend in these parts, Cindy bought the Lakeview Drive In in 1995 after working for Lakeview since young adulthood and then successfully ran it for over 20 years.

After departing with the business in 2016 due to family obligations, she has decided to open up shop again under a new namesake, Cindy’s. The food is as great as you remember, with a very similar menu to when they first opened up. Self described as “country cooking” and “home cooked meals,” her famous lunch specials are even still around from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cindy’s is located at 263 Live Oak Street in Marlin, once the home to Main Street Cafe and Steaks. By taking out the salad bar in the dining room, there is room for a counter, where you order when you first walk in. This has helped to open up the dining space and give a very welcoming aspect when you first walk in.

Take out is also available by calling (254)8 83-2804. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

D&S Ranch BBQ And Sausage Company is now open as well at 564 County Road 201 in Marlin. The hours of operation are Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This delicious joint may be a little tricky to find the first time around, so here’s how to get there. When traveling south on highway 6, turn right on County Road 201 (take a left if traveling northbound.) Once on CR 201, continue less than a mile and it will be on your left. There’s no way you’ll want to miss out on this delicious grub.

Owners Susan and David Bolden serve entrees such as slow smoked brisket, BBQ chicken, pork ribs, and they even make their own pork and beef sausage. Reviews so far have been spectacular, detailing amazing food, service, and ambiance. A date for the ribbon cutting ceremony by The Marlin Chamber of Commerce has not been set yet.

On Nov. 12 a new gourmet coffee shop was opened in town. That Hippie Cafe opens at 5 a.m. daily and is the perfect place to stop for your cup of joe on your way out of town.

It is nestled along Business Highway 6, just south of the light.

Their Facebook advertises that each pot of coffee is ground fresh for brewing and that they use purified water to preserve the coffee’s flavor and aroma. A notion to mother nature, the beans used are organic and all paper products have been recycled, are compostable, and/or are eco-friendly.
