Officer suspended for suspected involvement with fake cash

Officer Sergio Callazo of the Marlin Police Department has recently been placed on suspension without pay, and remains under investigation for potential use of fake cash.

According to a statement by City Manager Alan Grindstaff to the Waco Tribune Herald, “I was told what information we had at the time by the chief, when I first found out about it, I directed him to suspend the officer and get a hold of people in Dallas. I know the chief talked to the Dallas Police Department and some federal people who are supposed to come down to talk to the officer involved.”

Callazo stated in his report that a man had approached him outside of a convenience store somewhere located in Dallas, while local authorities stated that the man asked Callazo if he wanted to buy some counterfeit money, and reportedly Callazo agreed.

Reports indicate that store surveillance cameras captured the transaction on film.
