Power restored at Marlin ISD schools, residual impact to be assessed

Power was restored at Marlin Elementary and Marlin Middle schools late Sunday night after a winter storm downed power lines last week. Marlin ISD announced that staff would be returning to the district at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 6, and students would return on Tuesday, Feb. 7, so district employees could assess the residual impact of the outage and welcome students safely back.

In an email to staff, Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson offered a tone of support.

The statement read:
"As of 8 p.m. on Sunday, power was restored at Marlin Elementary and Middle schools. With the electricity being restored after being disconnected for a number of days, as well as the uncertainty regarding any potential issues (food spoilage, internet connectivity, other classroom/building damage), it is in the best interest of the district to have staff return on Monday, Feb. 6 and students return on Tuesday, Feb. 7

All district employees will report to the high school auditorium at 9:00 a.m. on Monday to hear updates from myself and our campus principals. After the meeting, everyone will be released to their campus to prepare for the upcoming week(s) of school. This has been an extremely difficult time for most of us, including our students. Please reach out to any member of your campus/district leadership team if yourself or a student is in need of assistance.

Let's continue to support each other and every member of the Marlin ISD community, as we deal with yet another trial that we must overcome."
