Rotary Club of Marlin Introduces Demeka Simmons

Special to the Marlin Democrat

”I am (Mrs.) Demeka Simmons, the proud new principal of Marlin Middle School. I am an exuberant educator that absolutely loves what I do! I began my educational career 15 years earlier serving the role of classroom teacher, assistant principal, interim principal and principal.”

Mrs. Simmons has worked tirelessly to close achievement gaps for all students and looks forward to continuing the work at Marlin Middle School through collective efforts with teachers, parents, and the community. It was her personal mission when she entered the campus doors to be the educator she desired when she was a youth and striving to be all that God called her to be. In fact, she states, “I am reminded in my daily interactions with teachers, students, parents, and stakeholders to be the educator I yearned for when attending school, and this ideology has shaped my educational journey in ways that I could have never imagined.”

Speaking at the Rotary Club meeting of August 19th, Mrs. Simmons exclaimed how in such a short period of time in Marlin, Texas, more specifically, at Marlin Middle School, Mrs. Simmons has felt like a family member. She, along with all staff, see “the opportunity to work closely in making sure system and processes are implemented that will positively impact student academic outcomes by analyzing the data, being reflective, and noting areas that will prove conducive to ensure we are educating the whole child to include best-practices relating to social and emotional needs of our scholars. Additionally, we have created a shared mission, vision and motto that everyone is proud to note, in fact, you will hear teachers note our motto throughout the halls and during meetings “We are fearless, powerful, and significant”, I am confident if we continue to keep the main thing the main thing, which is student achievement, we will move from good to great during this academic school year!” (Simmons Biography)

As Superintendent Dr. Henson says, “We will be committed to excellence, so get ready for the takeoff.” Marlin Middle School is accepting the charge. Our schools will be victorious as it relates to obtaining nothing less than the best for the awesome scholars of Marlin Middle School! Rotary Club of Marlin is posed to provide awards and recognitions for students, per the teachers’ requests.
