Rotary welcomes John “Brad” Tarver

The Rotary Club of Marlin is pleased to announce that John “Brad” Tarver has been inducted as the newest member of the service club.

Tarver is Public Relations Chair. A native of Houston, he resides in Marlin with his mother, Betty Tarver.

“I want to help this community through Rotary by establishing a 10G network for cybersecurity in Central Texas. I want to work with Rotary in its service projects,” states Tarver.

Rotary Club President Letitia Estep added, “Brad Tarver’s contribution to Rotary is immense. He is a cybersecurity expert and shares his proficiency and enthusiasm with his new Rotary family in and out of club meetings.”

Rotary International is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Solving some of the world’s most complex and pressing problems takes real commitment and vision. Rotary members believe that they share a responsibility to take action to improve communities.

There are 1.4 million Rotarians in 200 countries worldwide. The first Rotary Club was founded in Chicago, Ill., in 1905 by an attorney named Paul Harris and several of his colleagues. The name “Rotary” was derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among each of the members’ offices. The Rotary motto is “Service above self” and today Rotarians provide approximately 47 million volunteer hours each year.

No challenge is too big for Rotarians. For more than a century, Rotary has bridged cultures and connected continents. Rotary champions peace, fights illiteracy and poverty, helps people get access to clean water and sanitation, and fights disease. Rotary’s newest cause is to protect planet Earth and its resources.

Rotary Club of Marlin celebrates Tarver’s having joined the People of Action, knowing that they can make an even bigger impact – together.

On 23 February 1905, Paul P. Harris, Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, and Hiram E. Shorey gathered in Loehr’s office for what would become known as the first Rotary club meeting.

The Rotary Club of Marlin was created in 1931. It continues to meet each Wednesday at noon at The Chicken Place.
