Rotary welcomes Susan Byrd, J.D.

Rotary is proud to welcome Susan Byrd, J.D., to the global community of more than 1.2 million men and women dedicated to building a better world. Susan Byrd was inducted into the Rotary Club of Marlin and the greater Rotary International by District 5870 Governor Shannon Coleman on July 27, 2022.

As a new member, Susan will make Rotary stronger. By adding her skills, experience, and enthusiasm to the club, she can advance communities in Marlin and on a global scale and eradicate polio, train more skilled peacemakers, and provide lasting solutions for communities fighting disease, hunger, illiteracy, and poverty.

Susan Byrd has practiced law for more than 40 years as CEO and named partner of Ayers & Byrd, P.C., a civil litigation law firm located near Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to managerial and financial responsibilities for the firm, she was a “first-chair” litigator in a diverse range of civil matters ranging from banking/commercial law to cyber defamation to constitutional issues affecting commerce.

She has appeared before state, federal, and appellate courts including the 1st and 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the U.S. Department of Labor. Susan’s law practice is complemented by her past commercial banking experience in loan restructuring and finance.

After moving to Marlin, Texas in 2016. Susan successfully ran for the Marlin City Council, representing Precinct 1. She developed an expertise in water resources including the Big Creek project involving the proposed Brushy Creek reservoir in Falls County. A dedicated community advocate, Susan lobbied for economic development and continues to work to improve Marlin and Falls County by investing in and providing consulting services to local start-up businesses.

Susan holds an LLM, American Banking Law, from Boston University; a J.D., from Oklahoma City University; a Comparative Law Studies – European Common Market Law from Queen’s College, Oxford, U.K.; an M.B.A., Marketing, from Central State University, Edmond, OK.; and a B.S., Radio, TV, & Film, from the University of Texas.

Presently, Susan enjoys being active in the Sovereign Military Order of the Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem, an international Christian non-profit organization dedicated to educating women in the Middle East; Daughters of the American Revolution; The Community Garden Club of Marlin, Texas (the longest continuously operating garden club in the State); and of course, The Rotary.

In the Rotary community, Susan can exchange ideas and build lifelong friendships with people who share her passion for service.
