Rotary: Wesley Rolan on Financial Wealth Management and Emergency Ambulance Services

Wesley Rolan, Edward Jones Financial Wealth Management, was guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Marlin meeting on April 3, 2024, at  noon, at The Chicken Place.

Wesley Rolan outlined the state of the economy plus the upcoming Presidential Election and their effect on personal financial planning. Speaking extensively on brokerage account options, retirement accounts, and other investment accounts such as stocks, bonds, certificates of deposit (CDs), mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and annuities, Wesley Rolan suggested, “Be cautiously optimistic. There will be growth, just no home runs.” He explained the type of investment account one should use should depend on one’s situation and personal goals, short-term and long-term.

Wesley Rolan, also Commissioner of Marlin’s Emergency Services District, described the recently-added City Ambulance Service for emergency medical services in Marlin, extending to Perry and Reagan. He offered, “Hope is to do our own service, own our own assets. Pay non-profit rates vs for-profit services.”

Wesley has experience in emergency medical care, life support, and ambulance service. He also brings knowledge and skills needed in the areas of communications, transportation, and recordkeeping in emergency services.

Wesley described the role of an emergency medical technician (EMT) and the importance of  developing talent in Falls County to work the ambulance. An EMT is a trained medical professional who responds to emergency medical situations and provides immediate and efficient care to the injured or those in critical conditions. An EMT is usually the first to respond and provide basic medical care to individuals in accidents or critical situations. Besides providing life-saving treatment measures, EMTs are also responsible for transporting patients to medical facilities for further care.

EMT training, which includes classroom lectures and activities; hands-on, life-saving skills training; and scenario-based practice, is commonly available through junior colleges. Training as an EMT, in some instances, can be initiated through a joint program by the local Fire Chief.

Rotary Club of Marlin thanked Wesley Rolan for encouraging junior and senior students and other adults to examine a vocation in emergency ambulance service. Wesley Rolan can be reached at (254) 803-2490.
