Scaman “looking forward” to trial, professes innocence

Falls County Sheriff Ricky Scaman released his first official statement concerning the pending the sexual assault case against him on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

In his statement, he maintains that he is innocent, stating that the allegations that have been made against him are false.

“The allegations and the timing of them are a concerted effort on the part of several persons to extort money from me and the people of Falls County,” the official asserted.

Scaman is being represented by Hoagie Karels, who hinted at a similar thought process while speaking with reporters earlier in the week.

“Everything’s a money game,” he said. “It’s always just about the money.”

Karels stated that there is speculation concerning the legalities of processing the defendant on the night of his arrest.

“Why did they take him to Bell County then?” the lawyer questioned. “There’s no logical reason other than that- to keep him in jail with a higher bail.”

Scaman will remain in his position as Falls County Sheriff until he is convicted, removed, or succeeded, despite having his badge revoked on Sept. 28.

“While this matter works its way through the court system, I will continue to protect and serve the citizens of Falls County,” he declared. “I look forward to a trial, at which time all of the true facts will be presented, and when a jury will render a verdict of “not guilty,” and put an end to this extortion attempt and clear my name.”
