School Board President Resigns

Band serenades positive feedback

The Marlin School Board of Managers met at the Marlin Jr. Academy Library on March 19 at 6:30 pm. The meeting was called to order by active board chair, Mr. Billy Johnson, and roll call was taken. This was followed by Superintendent, Dr. Michael Seabolt, announcing to the group that Board President, Kevin Benjamin, had stepped down from his post due to scheduling conflicts.

Led by band director, Demeprius Beachum, the Combined Marlin Jr. High/High School band played one of its competition pieces. It was shared that the band had just received a Division 1 rating in their U.I.L. band competition. This was the first time that this had been achieved in 14 years and the students proudly displayed the plaque the band received for their achievement. The board members praised the young musicians and their band director for their accomplishment.

Mr. A.J. Crabill, Deputy Commissioner with Texas Education Agency, addressed the board and complimented them on the positive strides that the school was making and that the state had noted their 4 years of progress. “We are celebrating,” stated Mr. Crabill, adding, “but are not satisfied. We are all working to make more opportunities for our students.”
