Turn Row meeting set for June 21 in Temple

The 2023 Bell County Turn Row Meeting will be held on Friday, June 21.  

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Blackland Research Center (808 East Blackland Rd. Temple) in the USDA/ARS Administration Building. Coffee and breakfast will sponsored by Georgia Pirtle Crop Insurance with the program slated to begin at 8:30 a.m.

The Extension program will offer three hours of CEU’s (1 IPM and 2 General) for renewal of private applicator license and certificate holders.

Speakers and topics will include Commodity Market Update and Overview by Dr. Mark Welch, Texas A&M Associate Professor & AgriLife Extension Economist. Tours of the replicated variety plots will follow including corn and cotton. Dr. Ronnie Schnell Associate Professor & Extension Specialist – Cropping Systems will give an update and seed company representatives will discuss their variety’s. Dr. Benjaman McKnight, Assistant Professor & Extension Cotton Specialist will discuss the Replicated Agronomic Cotton Evaluation (R.A.C.E.) trial and other updates pertaining to cotton growers.

Following the tour stops. Lunch will be provided, and speakers will include Lindsey Hansen, Bell County FSA Director giving a USDA update followed by Tyler Mayes, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Agent. Hillsboro, TX with a Crop Scouting Report. The event will conclude at 12:30 p.m. with door prizes and CEU certificates.

Central Texas has been fortunate this year with a wet growing season, however input costs and inflation continues to rise. This Extension educational program hopes to answer some questions and provide some insight for producers in Bell and surrounding Counties.
