What started as a simple hobby making custom shirts at home has blossomed into a thriving creative hub in the heart of Marlin. Vonnie & Kate Creations & The Event Collective by Vonnie & Kate is proof that with passion, hard work, and community spirit, a small idea can grow into something truly special.
Founded in October 2022, the business began when Vonnie started crafting shirts and vinyl designs for her husband’s company. Before long, she saw the potential to do more. After purchasing a building on Bridge Street and teaming up with her partner, Kate, the business grew into a multifaceted enterprise offering custom creations, event planning, and fundraising services.
Together, Vonnie, a U.S. veteran, and Kate, a photographer and event planner, bring creativity and purpose to everything they do. Their shared love of dogs and community connection sparked a partnership that has turned their vision into reality.
Today, their shop is filled with handcrafted items like t-shirts, tumblers, cutting boards, blankets, candles, soaps, scrubs, and wax melts— each personalized for the customer who orders it. “Everything we do is unique,” Vonnie said. “We love creating something special for every person who walks through our door.”
The pair’s creativity doesn’t stop there. Earlier this year, they expanded their offerings with The Event Collective, helping clients plan memorable celebrations, fundraisers, and community events.
Their dedication to quality and customer care has earned them BBB Accreditation with an A+ rating, a milestone they’re especially proud of. But for Vonnie and Kate, the true reward comes from the people they meet along the way. “The community itself is what we love most,” they shared. “We’ve met so many amazing people through this journey.”
Vonnie and Kate also make it a point to give back by hosting a monthly vendor market, which shines a spotlight on local makers and brings more activity to downtown Marlin.
Their advice for aspiring entrepreneurs? “Be prepared to work long hours and work hard,” Vonnie said with a smile. “But it’s worth it when you see your dream come to life.”
