Water board approves funding for Marlin water systems

The Texas Water Development Board Thursday approved $10.575 million in assistance to the City of Marlin for stormwater system and water system improvements.

That amount includes a $3,055,000 zero-percent interest loan and $1,190,000 in loan forgiveness from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and a $2,330,000 zero-percent interest loan and $4,000,000 in loan forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund.

The city could save about $2.3 million over the life of the loans by using the revolving fund programs, the Water Development Board said.

The city will use the $4.245 million from the Clear Water State Revolving fund to pay for planning, design and construction of drainage system improvements.

The $6.33 million from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund will pay for water system improvements including rehabilitation of the city’s water treatment plant, removal of an abandoned well and replacement of about seven miles of water lines.
