Jo Jerreine Barnett Jones passed away peacefully on January 25, 2017 in Houston, Texas. She was born in Marlin, Texas, to Dr. and Mrs. John Houston Barnett on October 16, 1920. Jo graduated from Marlin High School in 1917 and from Baylor University in 1941. She received her Master of Arts from Columbia University in New York City in 1943. Jo was a lifelong member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church, Tanglewood Garden Club, Houston Bar Auxiliary Association, Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and Petroleum Club of Houston. She was known for her beautiful smile, engaging sense of humor, thoughtfulness and kindness to others, keen intellect, and elegant sense of style and grace. She enjoyed reading, gardening, world travel with her husband, classes at Woman’s Institute of Houston, and her Bible studies. Foremost in her life were her love of the Lord and her family. Jo was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Harry Lamar Jones, attorney and retired partner of Deloitte & Touche; and her sister, Joni Dell Barganier. She is survived by her son, Dr. H. Lamar Jones, Jr. and wife Deborah and her daughter Linda Jones Baker and husband Robert H. Baker, Jr.; grandchildren, Bradley Jones, Leslie Jones Doctor and husband Shawn, Kate Jones Burns and husband Thomas, Caroline Baker Jamison and husband Chris, Catherine Baker, and Julie Baker Faulkner and husband John; great grandchildren, Will and Whitney Jamison, Clara Jo and Margaret Doctor, Quinn Burns, Christian, Madelyn, and Myles Faulkner; and her nieces and nephews. The family extends its deepest gratitude to Jo’s caregivers, Gail Weems and Shegalla Guillory. Graveside services were held at Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, Texas at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, officiated by Pastor Kurt Rutz. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 4807 San Felipe Rd., Houston, officiated by Dr. John Wurster. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Philip Presbyterian Church.
