Pastor celebrates 90th birthday
Marlin’s hometown pastor/preacher/leader was honored by his family, church members, and friends in celebrating his 90th birthday in a pandemic style.
Reverend Johnson’s daughters were determined to follow and keep their word that he would get his 90th birthday celebrating just as they did his wife, the late First Lady (Nurse) Devora Lee Bradley Johnson in October 2019 before her passing.
Not only was April pastor Johnson’s 90th birthday, it also marked the 58th Pastor’s Anniversary at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Marlin.
Since the pandemic season is still active the Johnson sisters created a joyful pleasurable day for staying home in celebrating. All four daughters were present and active with their spouses. Deborah Raphael, Gail and Bishop Garrett, Maurette and Charles Lewis, and Sherri and David Swinson all put their expertise in action which included: favorite home cooked meal, enjoyed a drive by evening parade which ice cream and cupcakes were passed out to participants, his grandson and wife Gaylon and Crystal drove down From Oak Point to introduce his new two-month-old great-grandbaby Kryslon Zamora Garrett. A Vidhug video was sent in over 70 people giving congratulations and blessings, along with many phone calls and birthdays cards given.
His family is grateful to God that he allowed us to still have our father and to carry out our promise of celebrating his 90th birthday.
Pastor Johnson has been teaching/preaching over telephone from home since churches closed March 2020 and as of Sunday May 2 the Zion Hill Church resumed fellowship in which Pastor Johnson was glad to be back in the house of the Lord to preach from the pulpit.
They would like to thank Constable Marion Humphrey and Police Escort for making a senior citizen live and enjoy seeing outdoor excitement again.
