MISD to participate in Grow Your Own program

The Marlin ISD Board of Managers met May 2 at the Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding. Board Managers present were Byrleen Terry and Superintendent of School, Dr. Darryl Henson. Misty Ehlers was not in attendance.

After returning from closed session, Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters to include recommendation to propose nonrenewal of Claude Keith Kelly’s term contract.

Superintendent Report was presented by Jesse Bustamante, Director of Human Resources & Special Education. Marlin ISD was awarded funding to participate in Grow Your Own (GLO) program funded by TCLAS Decision 4 to achieve program goals. GLO was designed to facilitate increased entry of qualified, diverse candidates into the teaching profession particularly in rural and small school settings. Maximum of six candidates seeking teaching certification only will receive an $8,000 stipend and participants seeking a bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate will be allocated $19,000. Six names have already been submitted to TEA.

Byrleen Terry moved that the School Board Managers accept the recommendation to the nonrenewal term contract of Claude Keith Kelley and authorized the Board to submit a written notice. The motion carried. With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
