Marlin ISD hands out several recognitions

The Marlin ISD Board of Managers met Sept. 12 at the Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding.

Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Byrleen Terry, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools.

Lone Star Governance recognitions included Student of the Month Lamar Walker, Teacher of the Month Alfonso Weems, and special recognition to Conservator Dr. Jim Vaszauskas. The Board of Managers went into closed session to deliberate personnel matters.

After the Board returned from closed session, Superintendent’s Reports followed.

J. Adam LeJeune, Director of Technology, reported MISD uses Classlink for Rostering/Single Sign on Services identifying 90 percent of students were enrolled in instructional programs prior to the first day of school.

Dr. Henson presented the August 2022 Financial Report. He noted the Child Nutrition Grant application will be filed which would provide free/reduced lunch for all.

Niki Edwards, Executive Director of Academics, presented the District Improvement Plan which serves as the blueprint for how the district will address the needs identified during the Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA).

Marquita McCullum, Director of Elementary Academics, shared the first grade class size ratios of 24/23/22. Because two classes exceed allowable class size limit of 22 students, Maximum Class Size Exception Waiver has been granted. McCullum reported daily enrollment tracking process is being monitored, a Teacher Assistant is available, and campus instructional support staff are supporting teachers with quality instruction.

In other matters, Dr. Stacy Parker Knight presented the renewal of the North American Solutions: PCAT Property & Casualty Insurance for building and personal property coverage $309,266. Byrleen Terry moved to approve the recommendations, seconded by Billy Johnson. Motion carried. With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
