Marlin reduces water conservation to Stage 2
The city of Marlin has announced a reduction in water conservation measures, moving from more severe restrictions to Stage 2 of its Drought Contingency Plan. While this shift eases some limits on water use, officials emphasized that the citywide Boil Water Notice remains in effect until further notice.
Stage 2, classified as “Moderate Water Shortage Conditions,” aims to reduce daily water demand by 20 percent. As part of this stage, the city will implement several supply management measures, including reduced flushing of water mains and ongoing public advisories regarding the water situation.
Under Stage 2 restrictions, residents are subject to the following rules: Landscape irrigation is limited to twice a week, with even-numbered addresses allowed to water on Sundays and Thursdays, and odd-numbered addresses on Saturdays and Wednesdays. Watering is only allowed between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m., unless done using a hand-held bucket, a fivegallon- or-less watering can, or a drip irrigation system.
Vehicle washing is permitted only on designated watering days and during restricted hours (8–10 a.m. and 6–10 p.m.). All washing must use a handheld bucket or a hose with a positive shutoff nozzle. Exceptions are made for commercial car washes and essential vehicles such as those transporting food or waste.
Filling or topping off pools is also restricted to designated watering days and hours between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.
Additional prohibitions include operating ornamental fountains without recirculation systems, using hydrants for nonemergency purposes without a permit, and irrigating golf courses outside designated hours unless they use non-city water sources.
The city also continues to prohibit non-essential water uses, such as washing down sidewalks and buildings (except for fire protection), flushing gutters, and failing to repair known leaks.
Marlin city officials have not yet announced when the Boil Water Notice will be lifted. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels as updates become available.
