City of Marlin Downgrades Water Restrictions, Lifts Boil Water Notice
The city of Marlin has downgraded its water shortage response measures from Stage 4 to Stage 1, easing restrictions that were put in place due to limited water supply.
According to city officials, the Stage 4 measures were rescinded as of Wednesday, Aug. 6, and the downgrade to Stage 1 is considered a precautionary measure. Car washes and laundromats are now allowed to resume normal operations.
Stage 1 response measures are intended to achieve a voluntary 10% reduction in daily water demand. Though not mandatory, the city is encouraging all residents to conserve water.
Under the Stage 1 plan, residents are asked to limit irrigation of landscaped areas to two days per week, and only during the hours of 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. on designated days. Addresses ending in even numbers may water on Sundays and Thursdays.
Addresses ending in odd numbers may water on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
Water customers are also asked to minimize or stop nonessential water use.
Boil water notice rescinded
In a separate update, the city announced that the boil water notice issued July 29 has been lifted.
According to the city, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality confirmed on Aug. 7 that recent water samples met safety standards and no longer require boiling before use.
“The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use,” the city stated in the announcement.
The boil water notice was originally issued after tests indicated the city’s drinking water was not safe for consumption or hygiene use.
City officials urge residents to continue practicing water conservation, even under the reduced Stage 1 measures.
