Central Basketball Results/Schedules for Week of November 17

Girls basketball is entering its second week of play. The boys will start this week, with a few teams starting play in the coming weeks as football season is still going. Two teams in our coverage area are listed in the boys preseason rankings. Marlin is ranked at No. 7 in Class 2A, while Thorndale is ranked at No. 15. How ironic that both of these teams have the mascot Bulldogs!

Marlin will be in Region III, District 17-2A, and are picked to be the No. 1 seed in the district for 2025-26. Mart is picked to be the No. 2 seed, followed by Moody, and Axtell at three and four seeds.

In Region IV, District 272A, Thorndale is picked to be the No. 1 seed, with Granger at No. 2, Rosebud-Lott at No. 3, and Bartlett No. 4 in the district.

On the girls side, Marlin is picked at No. 1 in District 17-2A Region III, and in District 27-2A Region IV, Thorndale is picked at No. 3 and Rosebud-Lott at No. 4.

Results from Last Week and a Look at this Week’s Schedule and Next Weeks (Girls/Boys)

The Cameron Yoe Lady Yoemen split two games last week. Johnson City took the win last Tuesday, 73-35. The Lady Yoemen bounced back on Friday to beat Bruceville-Eddy, 42-29. Yoe led 15-7 after the first period of play, and 23-12 at the half. The Lady Eagles tried to get back in the game in the third, outscoring the Lady Yoe 11-8, but the Cameron defense was too much.

This week, the Lady Yoe were scheduled to play Chilton at home on Tuesday, then a road game Friday against the Troy Lady Trojans. Tipoff is at 6:15 p.m. for both games, according to the schedule, and those times could be subject to change.

In boys action, the Yoemen will play Holland at home this Friday night, at 6 p.m. Next Monday, Nov. 24, they’ll remain at home to play the Moody Bearcats at 4:15 p.m.

In Class 2A, the Rosebud- Lott Lady Cougars beat Buckholts Lady Badgers last Tuesday, then played Mart on Saturday. This week, the girls will play at home against Wortham on Tuesday, Nov. 18. The Lady Cougars will play in the Florence Tournament Thursday thru Saturday. They’ll open with Travis Lady Rebels Thursday at 10 a.m., and at 2:30 p.m., they’ll take on the Legacy Ranch Lady Wranglers. On Friday, it’s host Florence at 2:30 p.m. Next Monday, the Lady Cougars travel to Lampasas to play the Lady Badgers, and Tuesday they’ll be at home to host the Bruceville-Eddy Lady Eagles at 1 p.m.

The Thorndale Lady Dogs are in action Tuesday, Nov. 18 against Snook. Then on Friday, they team travels to Moody for another nondistrict game. This past Friday night, the varsity Lady Dogs won 36-10 over Caldwell at home, while the JV team won 27-10. On Thursday, the 7th grade Lady Dogs beat Bartlett, 44-8, and the 8th grade team won 18-0.

Thorndale played at Florence last Tuesday, defeating the Lady Buffaloes, 53-34. The JV Lady Dogs won their game with Florence, 26-14.

While football is still going on, the varsity boys schedule hasn’t started yet, but the middle school teams are in full swing. Last week, the JH Gold team beat Rockdale’s JH on the road, 27-4, and the Maroon squad beat Rockdale, 20-7. 7A won 3122, and 8A came away with a 32-26 win.

The Milano Lady Eagles fell to the Snook Lady Jays at home last Tuesday, 55-25, and were scheduled to play Somerville on the road this past Friday, but no score had been reported at presstime. This week, the Lady Eagles were scheduled to play Hearne on the road Tuesday, then host Dime Box Friday at 1 p.m. On Monday, Nov. 24, Milano plays Bruceville-Eddy there at 12:15 p.m., and are in Groesbeck Tuesday, to play the Lady Goats at 11 a.m.

The varsity Eagles take the court next Monday, Nov. 24, at Hearne with tipoff at 1:30 p.m., then at home Tuesday to host Somerville at 12:15 p.m.

No. 7 ranked Marlin Lady Bulldogs are 2-0 after beating the Troy Lady Trojans last Tuesday on the road, 59-47. The team was scheduled to host the Mexia Ladycats Friday night. At presstime, no score has been reported. This weekend, the Lady Bulldogs will play in the Anderson-Shiro basketball tournament. Marlin opens the tourney on Thursday with two games. One against Brookshire-Royal at 10:30 a.m., then against a TBA opponent at 3 p.m. Friday they play Bremond at 10:30 a.m., and on Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs take on Franklin at 10:30 a.m., then host Anderson-Shiro at 3 p.m.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to begin play this Friday on the road against Itasca at 6:15 p.m., then stay on the road next Monday as they take on the Groesbeck Goats in a 7 p.m. game.

After dropping their season opener on the road against West, the Chilton Lady Pirates have won two in a row, defeating Thorndale on Nov. 8, and taking a 10-point road win against Granger, 55-45, last Tuesday. This week, they are scheduled to play Cameron Yoe Tuesday, Nov. 18, then travel to Giddings Friday evening to play the Lady Buffaloes at 5 p.m. Next Tuesday, the Lady Pirates return home to host Florence at 12:15 p.m., then turnaround on Tuesday for a road game against Cherokee at 11 a.m.
