Falls County Veterans Gather for Ceremony
About 30 veterans and community members attended the Veterans Day Celebration at Falls County Courthouse on November 11, 2025, sponsored by the Historical Commission and American Legion Post 31. The brisk, windy weather prompted organizers to move the event inside, where County Judge Jay Elliot, American Legion Post 31 Commander Fred Ormsby, Falls County Historical Commission Chairman Trudie Asbury and Vice Chair Elizabeth Nelson each shared stories, prayers and poems to honor and recognize the military service of all veterans, with special thanks to the local veterans.
Though guest speaker Lt. Colonel (Ret) Allen West was unable to attend, he sent a 10 minute video recording addressing the audience, speaking about the significance of military service and the importance of Veterans Day, sprinkled with scripture and memories from his career. After closing remarks, the audience made their way outside to ring the historic bell, with Active-duty Army PFC Tristan Castillo assisting. The congregation then moved to the Courthouse Square’s WWII Memorial to place a wreath, while Sam Bosnack Sr. played Taps on the bugle.
