The Giving (to Seniors) Tree at Marlin Democrat
The Marlin Democrat is working to make Christmas a little brighter for senior citizens in our community and wants your help.
Beginning today, the lobby of the newspaper office has a barren Christmas tree in it. We want you to help us fill it not with ornaments, tinsel and lights, but with items for senior citizens – new and unopened packages of socks, underwear, PJs, hats, scarves, slippers and the like.
We’ll accept donations until Friday, Dec. 19 and put them on the tree with the intention of brightening the lives of our community’s seniors this holiday season. The following week, we’ll deliver everything just in time for Christmas.
The idea was born as an offshoot of Shel Silverstein’s touching children’s book, The Giving Tree. Together, we can all give a little and make the holiday a lot brighter. The Marlin Democrat Office is located at 251 Live Oak and is open every Friday from 9 am to 12 noon for contributions- whether you’re bringing items for the Giving Tree, non-perishable food items for our Newspaper Food Drive (four items gets you a free, three-month digital subscription), or cover-age ideas, we’d love to see you!
