Marlin ISD Implements Tutorial and Coaching Support for Teachers

The Marlin ISD Board Workshop Meeting was held December 15, 2025 at 5:00 pm in the MISD Boardroom, Marlin High School, Byrleen Terry, Board President presiding. The Board of Managers (BOM) present were Kathleen Barrett, Rosalyn Dimerson, Misty Ehlers, Billy Johnson, Winnette Outland, Marsha Ridlehuber, and Superintendent of Schools Alphonso Bates. Dr. Rolando Trevino, TEA School Conservator.

The Lone Star Governance recognitions were Student of the Month Ashanti Outland and Teacher of the Month Kei’Shonna Smith. Recognized by their coaches, the Performers/Players of the Month were De Angelo Wright (Athlete Boy), Aaria Johnson (Athlete Girl), Davidson Lewis (Dance), D’Mariion Butler (Band), and McKenzie Bridges (Cheer Team). Kimberly Svatek was introduced as the new Chief Academic Officer and Executive Director of Operations.

The BOM moved into closed session (a) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters, (b) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Sections 551.071, deliberation regarding current litigation, (c) Pursuant to Government Code Sections 551.072, deliberation regarding real property and (d) Pursuant to Government Code 551.074, discussion regarding the duties and responsibilities of the Conservator, the Lone Star Governance coach and the Superintendent and (e) Pursuant to Texas Government Code Section 551.071: Consultation with Attorney. No actions were taken.

Convening from closed session, Superintendent’s Reports were presented. Superintendent Bates noted he attended the parent meeting addressing grades and general policies. He commented he was an active participant in the Marlin Chamber Christmas Parade.

Adam LeJeune, Director of Technology Officer, provided Bond 2022 updates. AV projects are progressing. New Boardroom replacement board desks will arrive in January. Streaming will be available by January. A press box walk-through at Legion Field is scheduled. Site work continues at the new gym. LeJeune presented plans for a new district phone system. Transition to the selected vendor ZOOM Phone will represent an annual 45% cost savings vs. current provider. LeJeune’s presentations included the E-rate Workshop. E-rate is a federally funded program for libraries and schools that provides discounts for certain telecommunication services and internal network services. Marlin ISD is filing for telecommunications and replacing aging network equipment in the elementary and middle school buildings.

Tamika Washington, Director of Academics, shared updates on Common-Based Assessments (CBAs), which are district-developed benchmark assessments designed to measure student mastery in content taught. There are Math deficiencies and improvements in Reading. Also presented was the consideration to purchase Trice Education Resources Services (TER). Focusing on STAAR testing, the program is designed to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes. Two certified Reading and Math teachers will provide delivery of high-quality standards-based co-teaching and small group student support services for 3rd & 4th Reading. The sessions will be January 14, 2026-March 27, 2026.

Norman Jones, Chief Operating Officer, presented November 2025 financial report, which provides continuous budget planning and evaluation of monthly activities, reflecting about 40% of the budget has been spent so far. Recommendations were acknowledged. In addition, Jones provided an updated Salary Schedule to include a Bilingual Coordinator, Chief Academic Officer and Executive Director of Operations.
