Weekly Basketball Roundup for Central Area Teams

Just a little bit of action this past week for area basketball teams, as Christmas break is smack dab upon us. Players have thoughts of what’s under the tree, while coaches have been wishing to Santa for more wins. Maybe each will get what they wished for!

Short, but sweet, let’s take a gander at the “ghosts” of basketball past. Here’s a look at how the week went, and where teams will be playing next week.

Tuesday, Dec. 16

Boys

Cameron Yoe Yoemen blasted past the Chilton Pirates on the road, 69-38.

Thorndale 7A beat Hearne, 29-23. Thorndale 8A fell to Hearne, 42-32. Thorndale Gold crushed Granger, 37-9. Thorndale Maroon beat Granger in a defensive battle, 9-5.

Thursday, Dec. 18

Rosebud-Lott Cougars dropped their game with Rogers, 68-37. The Cougars move to 8-5 on the season.

Friday, Dec. 19

Chilton Pirates fall to the Coolidge Yellowjackets, 5539.

Thorndale Bulldogs 71, Northeast Early College 37. Bulldogs are 11-3 so far this season.

Girls

Tuesday, Dec. 16

North Zulch defeated the Buckholts Lady Badgers in a district matchup, 52-22.

Cameron Yoe Lady Yoemen lost to the Rockdale Lady Tigers, 60-54.

Lady Yoemen JV 29, Rockdale JV 25

Lady Yoemen 7th Grade 42, Academy 7th Grade Lady Bees 17. Keely Flemings is having a banner year, averaging around 20 points per game on a team that has been playing together since third grade or so. Keep your eye on this young lady for the next several years!

Chilton Lady pirates 64, Axtell Lady Longhorns 25. Lady Pirates are 12-6 and 10 in district.

Marlin Lady Bulldogs opened district play by defeating the Moody Lady Bearcats, 67-30.

Milano Lady Eagles beat McDade, 45-9.

Thorndale Lady Dogs fall to Bartlett, 31-25.

Thursday, Dec. 19

Marlin Lady Bulldogs over the Bruceville-Eddy Lady Eagles, 74-22. Marlin is 10-7 overall and 2-0 in district play.

Milano Lady Eagles fall to the Thorndale Lady Dogs, 47-18. Lady Dogs are 12-9 overall and 1-1 in district.

Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars defeated McDade on the road, 70-20. Lady Cougars sit at 11-8 overall, and 1-0 in district.
