Marlinites Dress to the Nines for Adult Prom
Many Marlin locals and friends from neighboring areas paired their dancing shoes with their best dress or suit to enjoy an evening of music, food and camaraderie Saturday night for the first ever Marlin Adult Prom.
About 80 people showed up and showed out, dancing to a variety of music played by DJ RS including the Electric Slide and other line dances, country slow-jams, cumbias, and classic throwbacks. Though some spent the evening parked at their tables, watching from the sidelines, a great many attendees took several opportunities to cut a rug.
The Prom Planning Committee included Bridgette Burleson, Esmeralda Rojas, Princess Womack, Doris Washington, LaFeavia Robinson, Deitrich Lang-Bailey, Rhonda Bailey, Carolyn Sledge, and Traci Dimerson, who was unable to attend.
“I would like to thank all the ladies that helped me with this event,” said Princess Womack. “The turn-out we had was so amazing, and we’re just getting started! We are planning to meet up again in a month to plan something else for the community. We had so many negative people that didn’t think this was going to happen, but that just makes us want to go harder and keep doing events.”
In addition to decorating the BTW building, organizers put out a dinner spread for guests and hired security for the BYOB event. Before the night ended, two Prom Kings and Queens were chosen by judges: Kings Lafayette Morrison and Devante Cain, and Queens Bridgette Burleson and Keeda Womack. Congratulations to the first Marlin Adult Prom Royals!
Organizers hope to host this event annually, and plan to seek out sponsorships for Marlin Adult Prom ahead of next year’s event.
