Fire at Little League Field

On Sunday afternoon, a large fire was discovered at the Marlin Lions Club Little League Baseball Field on Neumann and Northridge Streets, made harder to contain and combat by persistent strong winds. Both the City of Marlin Fire Department and the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department responded. City of Marlin Fire Chief Justin Parker provided a summary of the incident as follows: On Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 4:21 PM, the City of Marlin Fire Department was dispatched to a vegetation fire at the baseball field located on Neumann Drive within the city limits of Marlin. At the time of the alarm, gusty northern winds in excess of 25 mph and low relative humidity values (< 30%) were present. Initial reports indicated that structures were threatened by the fire. Based on this information and the unfavorable weather conditions, resources from the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department were immediately requested.

The first City of Marlin Fire Department unit arrived on scene to find approximately four acres of vegetation involved in fire. The gusty north winds were pushing flames dangerously close to nearby homes. Neighboring residents and good Samaritans utilized garden hoses, buckets, and a variety of hand tools to help protect the threatened homes. Direct fire attack operations were initiated at the fire’s right (southern) flank in an effort to stop the wind-driven fire’s progress toward homes. Additional resources from the Marlin Volunteer Fire Department arrived on scene and initiated direct fire attack operations along the fire’s left (northern) flank and supplemented operations at the fire’s right (southern) flank.

A concession stand and portable building, which were located close to the baseball field, were overtaken by flames and destroyed. Gusty winds and moderate to heavy vegetation resulted in the fire crossing the rail tracks, which were located just east of the ball field. Marlin Volunteer Fire Department units were able to stop the fire’s eastward progress from a vantage point on North Business Hwy 6. The fire was declared under control at 5:54 PM, and mop-up operations commenced immediately afterwards. City of Marlin Fire Department units remained on scene extinguishing hot spots until 9:43 PM.

At the time of this media release, the fire’s cause remains under investigation. Aside from vegetation and wooden fencing, there were no reported damages to homes. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire or firefighting operations.
