Georgia Pecan Mix By Rosandra Hartsfield

“Oh, look at that trail mix! And it’s healthy!” resounded all, on seeing this huge container of mix. The recipe was provided by Rosandra Hartsfield, TX A&M AgriLife Extension Agent, at the National Nutrition Month 2026’s “Discover the Power of Nutrition” Celebration Event held at the Marlin Senior Civic Center on March 28, 2026. “I made it this morning. ..easy to mix, tossed with the salad dressing mixed with oil, and popped into the oven!” gleefully explained Rosandra.

“It was great…a balance of crunchy, cheesy, nutty, and lightly salty flavors…a perfect tasty fuel for on-thego snacking,” giggled Jan Smith.

INGREDIENTS

2 cups Georgia pecan halves 3 cups popped popcorn 2 cups cheese-flavored fish-shaped crackers 2 cups toasted oat cereal 1 cup thin pretzel sticks 2 cups oyster crackers 1 4-oz pkg buttermilk salad dressing mix 1/3 cup canola oil 1/2 cup raisins

INSTRUCTIONS

Wash hands with soap and water.

Preheat the oven to 250 °F.

In a large bowl, combine pecans, popcorn, fish crackers, cereal, pretzels and oyster crackers. Set aside.

Combine salad dressing mix and oil in a glass measuring cup. Pour dressing over dry ingredients and toss well. Spread mixture on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes.

Let mixture cool on pan. When cool, stir in raisins. Store in a 3-quart airtight container.

Allow kids to pour snack mix into plastic bags, tie with pretty plaid ribbon, and attach the recipe for take-home party favors or holiday gift-giving.
