Anna Lois Taylor Steele

Anna Lois Taylor Steele died peacefully in her sleep on October 3, 2016. Funeral services will be held at Adams Funeral Chapel in Marlin on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Adams Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Reverand William Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Marlin following the service. Anna was born March 22, 1926 in Dallas, the daughter of George Lovelace Taylor and Betty Jo Farris Taylor. After the death of her mother, she was reared in the home of Frank and Bobbye Hackel in Marlin. Mrs. Hackel was a sister of Betty Jo Farris Taylor. Anna was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, William John “Billy” Steele, Jr., her son, James William Steele, her brother James Allen Taylor, as well as her aunt Bobbye and uncle Frank Hackel. Anna graduated from Marlin High School, received a Bachelor of Business Administration, teaching certificate from North Texas State Teachers College in 1946 and a Master of Science in Education in 1966 from Baylor University. Anna taught junior and high school English and journalism in Marlin for many years. Anna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 65 years and served as an elder, soloist, moderator of Women of the Church and on many other committees. She loved singing in the choir as well as for baptisms and weddings. She loved her life in Marlin and her lifelong friends. Anna enjoyed teaching and was thrilled when former students visited with her over the years. Anna’s family deeply appreciates the entire team and her friends at The Tradition in Dallas who made her last few months as happy as possible. Anna is survived by her daughter Susan Steele Roach and husband John; granddaughter Julie Roach Hollberg, great grandsons Spencer and William Hollberg; grandson John B. Roach III and wife, Meredith; daughter-in-law Patty Steele Bateman and husband Butch; granddaughter Stacy Steele Fallin and husband David, great granddaughter Haley Fallin; granddaughter Lisa Steele Bardwell and husband Rodney, great grandsons Steele and Hudson Bardwell. She has a large family of nieces and nephews who she treasured. Anna will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
