Edmund Richard Hegefeld

Edmund Richard Hegefeld, 88, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, in Marlin.  

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud with Reverend Kurt Rutz officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home.

Edmund was born on July 16, 1933, to Christian Adolph and Emma (Freida) Hegefeld in Chilton. He lived in Tomlinson Hill Community and graduated from Chilton High School.  

Edmund served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957.  He trained in Lackland Air Force Base. Then he was in Aszone, England, upon leaving the service. He married the love of his life, Vertia Mae Lewis on Nov. 1, 1963, in Falls County. They celebrated 30 years of marriage.  He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Marlin.   

Edmund worked for Dr. Sam Sparks Ranch in Satin, Texas alongside his Dad and brother, Raymond until the Sparks sold the ranch. He worked for Falls County Road & Bridge until he retired.  He enjoyed raising cattle and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in by his parents; wife, Vertia Mae Hegefeld; brother, Christian E. Hegefeld; sisters, Selma Mulsow, Ruby Radle, Emynora  (Sissy) Walker, and Elsie Lina Steed.

Survivors include his brothers, Raymond Hegefeld and wife Barbara of Forney, and Willie Hegefeld of Perry; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
