Eunice Spurlock

Eunice Ervene Spurlock passed away January 23, 2018 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. Eunice and her family recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Visitation services were held at Rader Funeral Home, Kilgore, Texas, on Friday, January 26, 2018. A celebration of Eunice’s life was held on Saturday, January 27 at Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore, Texas. Eunice was interned at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Longview, Texas with a private family service. Eunice was born on January 12, 1928, in Reyno, Arkansas, to Irvin and Bertha Sutton. The family moved to Tipton, Oklahoma, where Eunice graduated from high school and developed a group of friends she cherished. In 1944, Eunice and her Mother, moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where Eunice would meet Thomas Harold Spurlock and were married a few months later. Harold and Eunice shared a strong love of God. After living several years in Phoenix, they both wanted a life of serving others. They lived in Ranger and Jacksonville before moving to Kilgore in 1963 where Harold served as minister. In 2008, after 44 years in her beloved Kilgore, she moved to Temple and later Rosebud to be closer to her family. She continued in service to others in Temple by sewing “OUCH BUDDIES” for McLane Children’s Hospital. Her many stitches found their way into so many beautiful quilts, pillows, and clothes. Eunice left a legacy of love and a constant desire to serve friends, strangers, family and God during her time on earth. She is survived by four children, Janice Spurlock Ballard and her husband, Frankie of Rosebud Texas, Mark Spurlock of Abilene Texas, Sharon Spurlock Lightfoot and her husband, Tim, of Temple Texas and Vern Spurlock and his wife, Carol of Fort Worth Texas; eight grandchildren, Brad Ballard and his wife, Amy of Rosebud, Beau Ballard and his wife, Erica of Robinson, Crystal Ballard of Corpus Christi, Stephanie Spurlock of Denver, Colorado, Emily Spurlock Barnes and her husband, Josh of Richardson, Audrey Thweatt of New York City, Caroline Lamsens and her husband, Frank of Fort Worth, Alexander Corpening and his wife, Megan of Fort Worth; ten great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Bella Ballard, Elijah, Sadie and Jack Ballard, Claire and Caroline Barnes, Charlotte and Theodore Lamsens, and Isabel Corpening. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her sister Janelle Tomlin; and her daughter- in- law. Jo Carol Spurlock. The family would like to especially thank the caregivers that assisted with her care over the past few years as her health declined. A special debt of gratitude is owed to Zerlentra Moore and Tameka Truesdale. Their unwavering passion, kind spirit, and love for Eunice was evident each day. The family is also grateful to the nurses and physicians of Baylor Scott and White in Temple. There will be a memorial reception in honor of Eunice on Saturday, February 17, at 2:00 p.m. at the Rosebud Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. Friends and loved ones are invited to attend.
