Gene A. Matelski

Gene A. Matelski, 77 of Marlin, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022.

Visitation will be from 6–8 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home.

Gene was born on March 25, 1945, at Torbett’s Hospital in Marlin. He is the son of Joe and Lula Matelski. He graduated from Marlin High School in 1963.

Gene married Judie Barnett in 1965, had two children, Martin Matelski and Necy Matelski. Judie was killed March 28, 1981, along with Craig Barganier in a car wreck, which Gene and Brenda were in.

Gene ranched most of his life and worked at Barnett’s. He also had a gun shop on the square which he really enjoyed.

Gene’s mother married John Armes in the early 50’s whom Gene thought the world of.

Gene married Ruby Rochelle Grams in 2000 and they had a wonderful carefree life until Ruby passed away in 2011.

Gene had a world of good friends, male and female, and if you were one you knew it.

He is survived by his brother, John Armes and his wife, Cory, from Mansfield, his son Martin Matelski of Marlin and his daughter, Necy Matelski Thigpen and her husband, Todd of Chilton. He was very close to Ruby’s 3 children Andy and Kim Jeske of Riesel, Lynn and Gary James of Chilton, and Jason Grams of Troy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
