Gwynn S. Range

Rolene Gwynn Sandlin Range, age 96, passed from this life Aug. 16, 2022, at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco.  

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, at Adams Funeral Home with Pastor Brandon Lund presiding. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Gwynn was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Texarkana to Roscoe N. Sandlin of Delta County and Cleo Motes from Abilene who met while teaching at Quanah High School.  Gwynn attended public schools in Austin, Cooper, Abilene and Denison. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She attended North Texas State Teachers College where she earned a B.S. Degree in business administration in 1946.  She also earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Baylor University in 1963.  She worked at the VA Regional Office in Dallas, At the US Air Force auditor’s office in Guam, and at the VA Hospital in Marlin.  She taught fourth grade for two years and eighth grade math in Marlin for 25 years.  After retiring, she worked as a bookkeeper and receptionist for her son’s veterinary clinic in Marlin for 28 years, where she offered the community a place to ship packages by UPS.

While at North Texas State she worked at the Registrar’s Office.  She belonged to Mary Arden Club, the Gammadion Society, Kappa Delta Pi Scholarship Society, Pi Omega Pi Honorary Business Society, The Math Club, The Camera Club, and the Kaghlir/Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority.  She especially enjoyed attending the Phi Sig reunions held annually from 1984 until 2014.

During her teaching years she was active in Classroom Teachers Association and become a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for women teachers, and held the offices of Vice President, President and Treasurer.

Gwynn married Newton B. (Hoss) Range of Mesquite on May 21, 1949.  They lived in Guam, in San Antonio, and near Mesquite before permanently settling in Marlin in 1955.  N.B. Range passed away Jan. 4, 1993.

Gwynn moved to Stillwell Retirement Residence in Waco in 2015.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. Mark S. Range and wife Carolyn of Mart and W. T. (Bill) Range of Marlin; brothers, Roscoe N. Sandlin Jr. and wife Glenda of Macon, Ga., David C. Sandlin and wife Jean of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; sisters, Etha Kiker of Denton and Nita Griffin of Pearland; and grandchildren, Clayton T. Range and wife Laura of S. Hamilton, Mass., Colton Range of Georgetown, Clint Massman and Cecelia of Waco, Katy Kupcak and Husband Jared of Fernly, Nev., and Travis Massman of Conroe; 12 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorials be made to Marlin Public Library, Stillwell Retirement Residence, or the charity of your choice.
