James Henry Wellman

James Henry Wellman was promoted to glory on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at the age of 82. To some of us who loved him, he was known as “Big,” and James Wellman was just that.

James was big in his faith, in his love of family, and in his love of this country. His testimony to everyone was in the way he fought his final battle. He never wavered from his faith, in fact we all saw that faith grow even stronger. He showed us all what a true relationship with Christ is and he was never afraid to tell others about God’s forgiving grace and love. James cherished his family. He was married to his Janie for 62 years and they had four boys together.

He was very proud of those boys and they all know how much he loved them. He was a loving brother to his brother and sister, a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, and a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Our James, our “Big” will be surely missed, but we know he is celebrating in heaven with Jesus Christ our Lord. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7  We all look forward to seeing you again someday, our dearest “Big.”

He is survived by his “Sweetie”, wife Janie Wellman, and his four sons, Phillip (Montee), Peter (Anna), Paul and Daniel. He is also survived by his brother, Donald (Florence) Wellman and his sister, Diane (Charles) Scheler; sister-in-law, Rhonda (Richard) Johnson; brother-in-law, Ronnie (Javone) Nutt, and sister-in-law, Kathy Nutt. “Big” has six grandchildren, Britnee White, Brett Wellman, Nicole Wellman, Natalie Wellman, Haley Wellman and Lindsey Wellman; and three great-grandchildren, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
