Jeanne Darlene (Casey) Steele

Jeanne Darlene (Casey) Steele, 63, of Mount Calm, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 in Waco. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 14 at Wade Funeral Chapel in Hubbard with Rev. James Shugart officiating. Interment followed in Mount Calm Old Town Cemetery.

Darlene was born May 27, 1955 in Rosebud to Oran and Ruby (Harrison) Casey. She was raised in the Cedar Springs community near Rosebud but had been a long-time resident of Mount Calm. Darlene married Curtis Steele in Waco on June 1, 1976. She had been a hairdresser and operated her own shop until an accident 30 years ago left her unable to work any longer. Darlene loved hunting arrowheads, shopping for antiques and quilting. She also enjoyed her kids’ sports and helped coach her sons’ youth baseball teams but her real passions were her dogs and her family especially her grandchildren. Darlene was a member of First Baptist Church of Mount Calm.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Deanna Casey Culpepper and stepfather, Finis Dudley.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Curtis Steele of Mount Calm; sons, Curtis “Bubba” Steele and wife, Candy of Mount Calm and James “Pooh” Steele and wife, Nikki of Mount Calm; sister, Jo Rountree and husband, Gordon, Jr. of Wimberly; father-inlaw, James Steele of Mount Calm; seven grandchildren, Mac Grant, Lake Grant, Timber Steele, Dylan Mack, Charlee Mack, Avery Steele and Harper Steele; longtime friends, Liz and Stan Holder, Stephanie Klanika, Sandy Boch, Jennifer Halbert and Jan and John Brigham and several nieces and nephews and numerous other extended family members and countless friends.

Pallbearers were Brandon Childre, William Lyendecker, Trent Neumann, Travis Neumann, Deano Dunlap and Ricardo Ramirez.
