Joyce Elizabeth (Hay) Lloyd

Mother, Aunt, Cousin, Mimi Joyce, Friend and so much more.  Joyce left her earthly home and joined her heavenly one on June 20, 2021.  She was the daughter of Garland and Evelyn Hay of Marlin and preceded in death by her sister Alyce Janeke Thomas.  Joyce was a sweet, caring, funny, Southern woman.  Born in Falls County, she grew up in Marlin and graduated from San Jacinto High School in Houston in 1956.

She was married to Maurice Lloyd for 20 years and primarily lived in the Marlin area where she worked as a secretary and clerk. She loved to work with ceramics, sew and participate in her girl’s activities.  In 1976 she married Ed Allen and lived for 27 years on Lake Jacksonville.  She worked as a furniture salesperson, was a member of the Civitan Club, member of the Red Hat Society and volunteered with Special Needs children in the school district.  During this time, she enjoyed several cruises and discovered her absolute love of the slot machines.  She was in her element when she got to spend time with her grandchildren and each summer they would descend at Mimi Joyce’s for a week of swimming, fishing, making crafts and spoiling.  In 2003 she became a single woman and for the next 18 years we daughters were blessed to each have her live with us in the city, the country and on the coast.  Joyce was an avid reader of mystery novels, liked putting together puzzles and enjoyed playing dominoes with her son in law Gerald.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Beverly Roppolo and husband Charlie, of Spring, Carol Waldrop and husband Gerald of Marlin, Dian Balusek and husband Bobby of Woodsboro; as well as her step-children Clark Allen and wife Sherry, of Jacksonville, Lisa Henderson and husband Danny of Bullard, Mark Allen and wife Fiona of Port Orchard, Wash. Her grandchildren are Tom Greever of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; Jake Foster of Chandler; Candice Benge of San Francisco, Calif.; Matthew Benge of Keller; Alana Hollingsworth of Farmington, N.M.; Tori Tedder of Bremerton, Wash.; Ben Waldrop of Centerville; Jason Roppolo of The Woodlands: Nick Roppolo of League City; David Roppolo of Spring; Joshua Allen of Mertzon; Samantha Allen of Rockwall; Jessica Henderson of Bullard; Mark W. Allen of Wilsal, Mon.; Kris Wahl of Waxahachie; and Kelly Styles of Pleasanton, Kan.  She had 25 great grandchildren.

A life celebration will be held on July 10 at 2:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, 5099 Hwy 7, Marlin. Visitation with the family will be held after the service behind the church. Refreshments will be served.
