Larry William Schroeder

Larry William Schroeder, 71, of Perry, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2021.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2021, at Perry  United Methodist Church.  A visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home in Marlin on Tuesday, October 27.

Larry was born in Waco to Harry and Irene (Davis) Schroeder.  He attended Riesel schools where he graduated in the class of ‘68.  He then attended TSTI, where he received his degree in Automotive Mechanics.

Larry was a very quiet, gentle soul. A faithful friend to all he met.

Larry loved working on cars early in life. He started working first, as a “shade tree” mechanic at his home. He then worked at the Arco Station in Waco as a mechanic while attending TSTI.  When he graduated, he worked for Clint Ferguson Chevrolet in Marlin until opening his own shop, Larry’s Garage, in Perry, where he retired in 2012. He was an excellent, trusted mechanic and he serviced many cars for numerous people in Central Texas. He loved muscle cars … especially his ‘69 Dodge Charger. That was his pride and joy.

Larry enjoyed camping, grilling and fishing with family.

Although Larry had no children of his own he had a nephew, three nieces and many great nieces and nephews that he adored. He was heartbroken by the tragic death of his niece, Angie Rut.

He made many happy memories camping with his nephew James, where they always brought home funny stories of their adventures.

Larry was  living at home with his mom.  During the years prior to her death, when she was no longer able to cook, she would give him directions on how to cook her specialties, which included homemade bread, pecan pie, gumbo and mashed potatoes just to name a few.  He had her recipes perfected.  When his nieces, Ashleye and Sierra, were away at college, he would bake bread and make homemade sweet pickles and send it back with them.

Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Will and Emma Schroeder and Alvis and Ruth Davis; his parents, Harry and Irene Schroeder; and his niece, Angela (Angie) Rut; and great-niece, Layla Evetts.

Larry is survived by his sister, Rita Rut and husband Albert of Perry and his sister, Beverly Williams and her husband David of Riesel; his nephew, James Rut and wife Caterina of Bluffdale; his niece Ashleye Evetts and  husband Corey  and Sierra Keller and her husband Dusty, all from  Riesel. He is also survived by four great-nieces and five great-nephews and one great-great-niece and great-nephew.
