Lee Albert Underwood Jr

July 8, 1947 - September 15, 2020

Lee Albert Underwood Jr, 73, of Marlin, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, after a long battle with heart complications. His memorial service was held on Monday, September 21, at the First Baptist Church, 518 E Gassaway Ave. Lott, Texas 76656. Interment will follow at a later date. 

Lee was born July 8, 1947 to LaVola “Peggy” and Lee Underwood Sr. in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from high school at Plainview HS, got his BA from Hardin Simmons University and attended Southwestern Theological Seminary. He was married to Paula Underwood of Marlin for 39 years.

He served in the USMC 3rd Recon Battalion during Vietnam and received an honorable discharge. He served as a missionary to both the Jicarilla Apache and Navajo Reservations for a total of 10 years. He was a Pastor all over the state of New Mexico and once in Colorado as a Pastor through the Southern Baptist Convention for over 25 years, and 6 years as a chaplain through TDCJ Prison System. He was happily retired at the time of his death. 

Lee enjoyed spending time with his family, shooting his guns, and collecting knives. Papa Shashi, as he was known to his grandchildren, loved the outdoors and the mountains.  He had his own sense of humor that could brighten any room. 

Survivors include his wife, Paula Underwood; three children, Jonathan Underwood and wife Natashia of Abilene, Rachel Crosby and husband Michael of Crowley, and Benjamin Underwood of Abilene; six grandchildren, Cambreigh Wilson, Abigail Crosby, Benjamin Crosby, Chloe-Jean Crosby, Ledger Underwood and Everly Underwood; one sister, Peggy Hornsby and husband Pete of Temple; two aunts, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Albert Underwood Sr and Lula LaVola McCuistion Underwood, and sister, LuAnne Underwood Autry.
