Lucius Earl Jones

Relatives and friends are invited to a Graveside Service at the Fowler Family Cemetery on March 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our Father, Papa and Brother, Lucius Earl Jones. While we are heartbroken and will miss him terribly, we know that he is now with his soulmate, Prissy, in heaven.

Lucius was born in Ballinger/Lampasas, Texas to GB and Lorena (Nunn) Jones on January 27, 1942. He was the oldest of two and big brother to Nita. As a young boy, Lucius was an avid and talented athlete and would eventually play college-level baseball. Lucius’ athletic career was diverted after surviving a serious car accident, but the upside was that his time in rehab gave him the opportunity to court Prissy (Ann) Faubion, who would become his wife.

Lucius would eventually attend Tarleton College and Texas A&M, and with plenty of support and advice from Prissy, earned an advanced degree in education.  By 1965, the family had grown to include two sons, Timothy and Stephen and they eventually settled in Chilton, Texas where Lucius taught, coached and eventually became principal at Chilton School. A highlight of Lucius’ career, aside from guiding literally thousands of children through math, physics, chemistry and teenage life, was when the Chilton School won the State Football Championship.

When Lucius and Prissy retired they moved to a wonderful old family home in Spicewood, Texas where they raised Red Brangus cattle and Boer goats. Lucius would often smile at the idea that he was raising animals for a living, and we all suspected that each goat had a name – which really made them more like pets and less like livestock.

Throughout his life, Lucius was passionate about science and technology. He passed this passion for learning on to his grandchildren who all inherited his innate understanding of numbers, computers, and data.

Kind and intelligent, Lucius was a man of few words, but he cared deeply for his parents, his wife, his sons, his grandchildren, and his sister.  Lucius was predeceased by his Father (GB), his mother (Lorena) his wife (Prissy/Ann) and his son Stephen. He is survived by his son Timothy (Eleanor), grandson Trent, granddaughters Tori, and Sophie, and his sister Nita (Phil).

The Jones family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Burnet County Sherriff’s Office, Fire and EMS teams, and JP Bindseil for their professionalism and care.  And from the bottom of our hearts, the Jones family would like to thank Jim and Doris Faubion for demonstrating to us all the true meaning of Christianity and Family.
