Marie Louise Whitfield Hall

First Lady Marie Louise Whitfield Hall made her transition into her heavenly home on Jan. 3, 2022.

The 14th child of Judge Whitfield and Bell Young Whitfield, Marie was born on Aug. 20, 1934, in Jones Prairie, Milam County. She spent most of her formative years in Rosebud, and attended Shiloh and Wilson White public schools.

Marie met and married the love of her life, Ozell Hall, and to this 70-year union was born eight children.

Marie was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 10. Her church home was Manasseh Church of God in Christ (COGIC), until her husband was called to pastor at Little Benjamin Church of God in Christ in Lott, Texas in 1960.

While at Manasseh, she was the YPWW president under the leadership of Pastor Henry Tate, Sr. An avid Bible student, Pastor Tate often called on Sister Marie to read the scriptures for him when he was preaching.

As First Lady, she served besides Supt. Hall in the Mexia-West District, Little Benjamin COGIC, and Power House COGIC. She faithfully served beside her husband and always put the ministry first. Reputed to be a Praiser, First Lady Hall gave her all in praising the Lord. She provided music by playing the piano and her melodious voice could be heard ringing during the services. First Lady Hall served as the Little Benjamin COGIC church secretary and secretary for the Fellowship Meeting for many years. She also served as Sunday School youth teacher and Bible Band president, as well as, the Mexia District Ministers’ Wives Auxiliary president.

An anointed second-generation Prayer Warrior, First Lady Hall was one of the host members of the Saturday Noon Day Prayer Meeting.  She was known to be able to get a prayer through.

First Lady was the epitome of an elegant lady. She dressed the part and her gentle way was exhibited in the way she treated all people. Perhaps First Lady’s most outstanding trait was her generous and humble spirit. She loved people and always had a sympathetic ear for all. No matter who you were, First Lady Hall opened her heart to you. She never met a child that she didn’t love immediately. Many of her nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children lovingly called her “Aunt ReeTee” or adopted her as “grandma”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister, and one great-grandchild.

First Lady Marie Louise Hall is survived by: her husband, Supt. Ozell Hall; children, Joyce (James) Bailey, Bobbie (Donnie) Weakly, Girlie Hall, Ozell Timothy Hall, Robert Harold Hall, Tracy Hall, Kirt Hall, and Teri Hall; sister, Charlie Mae Horton; brothers, Judge Whitfield, Artis Whitfield and Robert Lee (Bertha Lou) Whitfield; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Whitfield and Linda Whitfield; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Lovingly called “Aunt ReeTee”, she took to herself three nieces and one nephew that she called her own, Vivian Whitfield, Zelma Horton, Charlie Mae Horton and Artis Whitfield Jr.; and one great-niece, Katrina Whitfield, is also included in that relationship.
